Another great coffee morning yesterday, thank you all who came.
I just wanted to give a shout out to our great team of helpers and bakers that make this all possible. Can’t fit everyone in, but wanted to share this little photo of Margaret and Ella - two of our stalwart helpers who turn up every time to help serve tea and coffees. 🩵

As the year goes on, the shortage of food in Zambia is growing. Food prices are soaring, out of the reach of many people in the community. Thanks to the excellent advice we were given, and the resource planning for our schools, we are happy to report that the children that we educate, and the children in the orphanage are continuing to be fed nutritious meals each day.
It is a real joy to share these photos with you of our happy well fed children.
It will be a few more weeks before the rainy season, when the local farmers will be sowing crops for the coming year. Until that time the children are relying on the food that we can provide to help them grow strong and healthy.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports Opportunities Zambia 💜

Dear Supporters,
We hope this message finds you well. As we continue our mission to provide brighter futures for the children of Zambia, we want to take a moment to update you on the progress we’ve made and the challenges we are currently facing, with your incredible support.
In Zambia, investing in child literacy and numeracy is critical to breaking the cycle of poverty. Many children in the communities we serve still face significant barriers to accessing quality education. However, with your continued help, we’ve been able to provide essential learning materials, support teachers, and safe learning environments. Every new word learned and every mathematical problem solved opens a door to new possibilities for these children, equipping them with skills to not only improve their personal futures but also contribute to the development of their entire community.
Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in the learning process. With your support, we've been able to improve the nutritional intake of many children, especially through the addition of much-needed protein to their diets. Protein is vital for physical and cognitive development, and the difference is visible. Children who previously struggled to concentrate in class or were frequently absent due to illness are now healthier, more energetic, and eager to learn. Your contributions have had a profound impact, helping these children not only thrive in school but also live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Unfortunately, Zambia is currently experiencing a severe drought, and the effects are being felt across the nation. Crops are failing, food prices are rising, and water shortages are putting additional strain on already vulnerable families. For the children and families we support, this means added hardships—both in terms of nutrition and educational access. The drought has also intensified the demand for our services, putting greater pressure on our resources as we strive to ensure that no child is left behind.
We are immensely grateful for your generosity during these challenging times. Your continued donations, whether financial or in-kind, have been nothing short of life-changing. The situation in Zambia remains difficult, but with your support, we remain committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed despite the challenges they face. Your belief in the power of education and health is creating a brighter, more hopeful future for Zambia’s next generation.
Thank you for standing with us and for being a part of this journey.
With deepest gratitude,
The Opportunities Zambia Team

Harry and Chynara were successful. It was incredibly wet but they didn’t mind. Very dark long night up Devil’s staircase and over to Kinlochleven. It was tough with very sore feet at the end but back to work tomorrow for Harry. An incredible achievement and thanks to everyone for their incredibly kind and generous donations to our work in Zambia.

It’s just over 10 weeks since Sukie and I were in Zambia, and had our first visit to Kiva (Kids Voice Africa) Orphanage, run by Daddy A and Daddy J.
Their immediate need was for was for food & we were able to set up a monthly feeding programme to help these beautiful young people, but they had a bigger need as well.
Kiva house is rented, and the owner wants to end the rental later this year, so Julius and Abraham need to find a new Kiva home for these young orphans.
Abraham and his wife Sarah had a piece of land about half a mile from Umodzi school, and we agreed to build a new permanent home for the children and the ‘aunties’ that look after them.
Fortunately, Louis, the Umodzi School Principal is also a qualified builder, and he has been able to oversee the work that needs to take place.
These are some photos of when we visited the land in May, and photos from Louis of the building work that has been going on since.
We are building a five bedroom home complete with bathrooms, kitchen, living area, solar powered electrics, and water from a recently drilled bore hole. The most recent picture of the plastered walls was sent this morning, so now you are up-to-date with our progress!
Most of the building costs are already covered, but with a project of this size, we will still be needing help with all those little extras to turn this building into a home by painting, providing beds for the children, setting up a vegetable garden, and a place to keep chickens.
If you would like to help us with our project, the payment details are on the top of our Opportunities ZambiaFacebook page, or if you’d like to support us by coming along for coffee and cake on the last Saturday of every month in Darnick Village Hall, you will be helping to support this incredible project, and help Julius and Abraham continue to care for these children and give them the care every child deserves. Please enjoy these photos, and share to your friends ! Thank you 💜
